Report on mission to Sunyani Ghana 2011

Your club made a donation of $250 to the Rotary team that visited Ghana in early May. The donation was for the medical mission of distributing malaria nets to children and mothers. With the financial assistance of these 13 clubs, we had contributions totalling $3,500 and were able to purchase 350 nets for distribution.
Malaria is very much a disease of children, pregnant mothers and the cause of infant deaths. To give a full sense of how these nets are appreciated is difficult to relay. But I can assure you there is a need. Although we only made a minor contribution, it was significant.
During our visit, we distributed nets to children at Sunyani Primary School, two orphanages, and maternity wards in five hospitals as well as the children’s ward at the Sunyani Regional Hospital.
We took many photos. Please inform your board and members how pleased we were to have your club participate in this manner.
Besides the distribution of the nets, we dedicated the new toilets at the Primary School, saw the security fence, and dedicated a hand pump well that was financed by the Nanaimo Interact club. Through the generosity of mid-island clubs either directly or indirectly, Rotary has accomplished much in Sunyani. Our efforts are certainly appreciated and a fine Rotary relationship has been developed with our fellow Rotarians in Sunyani.
