Barry Sparkes wins gold at BC Seniors Games

May 18, 2010- The Nanaimo Parks Recreation & Culture Commission recognized local athletes who won medals at the recent BC Senior's Games. Awards were made to Barry Sparkes, Bruce Busby, Rob Carruthers, Rob
Strachan, Billy Chang, and Chris Frederickson.
These six athletes
received engraved medallions and certificates of congratulations at the May 19th awards
presentation at Bowen Park.
Their accomplishments came in various disciplines ranging from track and field events to road racing, badminton and golf. Combined, the group earned 9 gold medals while representing Nanaimo at the 2009 BC Senior's Games in Richmond. The Parks, Recreation and Culture Commission aims to recognize all individuals, groups, teams, and clubs who, through their endeavours, have brought recognition on a provincial level to our City. To qualify for an award, recipients must live in Nanaimo, be an amateur participant (unpaid), and have achieved a "gold" or first-place finish in their event or festival at a provincial level.
