2013 Rotary Mission to Sunyani Ghana

Counsellor George Anderson spoke at the Oceanside Rotary meeting on November 7, giving a report on his visit to Sunyani last summer. George visited Ghana for a couple of days during his vacation in order to report on the progress of a collaborative project between the RDN and Sunyani for municipal waste disposal.
After the program, Ken Hammer of the Nanaimo Daybreak Rotary Club gave a brief description of the upcoming visit to Sunyani in April 2013.
There will be an information meeting at Bev Hilton's house on Saturday November 17 10am-12noon : 5024 Visa View Cresent, Nanaimo for those who have an interest in joining the mission.

2013 ROTARY MISSION TO SUNYANI
Travel dates; April 14 – April 30(tentative)
Mission Goals
• Build capacity within District 5020 and the Sunyani Central Rotary Club
• Build relationships among Rotarians to be better able to serve their communities and the world
Mission Objectives
• Visit the Sunyani Central Rotary Club to experience their meeting and thank them for their support
on the various Sunyani projects
• Learn about Ghanaian culture through home-stay with Rotarians, meeting Rotarians and other community members, and visiting tourism sites
• To learn from each other and take at least 5 ideas back to our Rotary Clubs
• To participate in malaria net distribution and education and the Abesim library opening ceremonies
• Visit past project sites and determine future projects in conjunction with the Sunyani Central Rotary Club
All participants are required to have a valid passport and Ghana visa.
Although we will help to coordinate this it is your responsibility to apply and pay for the following items:
· Passport: Must be valid at least six months after your scheduled return to Canada.
· Ghana Visa for all Canadian citizens: An application and information on applying for the visa will be discussed with your trip confirmation. Allow four weeks to process the visa application. (We do have a contact in Vancouver to facilitate this)
· Required Inoculations: Check out requirements with local health centre. Usually a yellow fever inoculation is required. They recommend that Canadian citizens take precautions against malaria and other diseases. Please consult your physician to determine precautions appropriate for you.

Appointment fee $35
During the Health specialist consultation, you will obtain: details about
traveling to Ghana ,what vaccines you need; you will get the vaccines at that
time. Vaccines fee range from $50 to $130 each
Immunization should be received a minimum of 6 weeks before
departure date.
Optimum group size 8 members
Approximate cost per member $4000. – 5000.
